Drainage is only one consideration for landscape architects when they plan a sports facility, but it is a very important one. In wet weather conditions, its effectiveness determines whether the new pitch is playable. In the drainage layer, the kidney-shaped to granular form of expanded clay ensures good drainage and simultaneously absorbs a certain amount of moisture which is released again as needed, for example, in dry conditions.
Expanded clay is dimensionally stable thanks to the process by which it is manufactured. It does not settle and is both frostproof and thermally insulating. Hence expanded clay also assumes the function of a frost protection layer in winter. As a natural product, expanded clay is a welcome material for any gardener or landscaper, and for customers it offers the good feeling of an ecologically sound decision.
