Biogas plants generate renewable energies

The operators of biogas plants find that they are sustainable and lucrative. There are currently around 10,000 biogas plants across Germany which together produce an electrical output of around 5.8 gigawatts. This is enough to supply more than nine million households with electricity. As a general rule, a biogas plant is operated with renewable raw materials produced or also cultivated by the farmer. The raw materials include e.g., fodder beet, corn, liquid manure as well as other raw materials. The resulting biogas belongs to the group of renewable energies. The biomethane should have a methane content of between 50 and 75%.

What happens to rainwater with biogas plants

The number of approved biogas plants has increased significantly in recent years. This is also a result of the keenly anticipated energy revolution that has already started. As the number of biogas plants increases, it is of course very important to ensure that the danger of water pollution through rainwater water falling on biogas plants can be ruled out. That is why most biogas plants are designed in such a way that the rainwater water is drained into an appropriate pit and stored.

CN Protect Plus® offers biogas plant operators significantly more …

Biogas plant operators are on the right path if they have decided to use the product CN Protect Plus®,as the mineral floating cover provides a range of different benefits. It also means that a silo or pit can easily be filled from just one side or one place. The special CN expanded clay independently distributes itself over the entire surface of a silo or pit that needs covering.

  • The special CN expanded clay is a sustainable and above all, natural material. The raw clay consists of natural, selected Eocene clays with a proportion of over 60% montmorillonite clays.
  • The surface is covered 100% safely thanks to the grain structure of the extremely lightweight natural material crushed to 10 - 20 mm.
  • The retention effect immediately sets in as soon as the required volume of the mineral floating layer is on the medium to be covered.
  • The mineral floating cover immediately adjusts to a new level as soon as any liquid is removed from or added to the pit.
  • No other material, no construction or statics are required before using CN Protect Plus®. The pure product is ready to use and effective immediately.
  • CN expanded clay is approximately four times lighter than water, however, it cannot even be blown away by strong winds and remains in the respective silo.
  • In contrast to a surface made of plastic for example, CN expanded clay does not give the wind any chance to take hold. The surface may be briefly broken by the wind, but this gap closes again immediately when the wind subsides.

Many highly odorous liquids can be covered

In addition to rainwater, other liquids are also produced in a biogas plant, such as silage effluent, which, apart from being produced in large quantities, unfortunately also attract negative attention due to their strong odour. The mineral floating cover CN Protect Plus® only needs to be able to float on the odorous medium to take effect.

LUFA Nord-West has extensively tested CN Protect Plus® for many months. The product has an average result of 98% odour retention. The average value for ammonia retention is 92%.

Our tip:

There is nothing better than using a sustainable and natural product to curb a strong odour. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to find out more about our product.
